Finding an Article for Journal Club: Choosing a Topic

If you need an article for journal club, this guide will give suggestions on choosing a topic, where to search, and what to consider when evaluating articles

Getting Ideas

Not sure what topic to present on? Here are a few questions to help generate ideas:

  • Is there a concern on your unit that you'd like to find a solution for?
  • Did a patient have an uncommon disease or a complication that you want to learn more about?
  • What clinical issues are your teammates talking about?
  • What topics are being discussed in the literature in your field?

Browsing the Literature

Consider browsing recent issues of journals in your field to discover what the current issues and topics are.

To find journals in your field that the library subscribes to, check out BrowZine, our journal browsing tool. Choose a subject (for example, nursing) and then a smaller subset (like oncology nursing) to get a focused list of journals. Select a journal and then browse through the recent issues.
