The Advocate Health - Midwest Library offers many services to help with Advocate Health - Midwest teammates' information needs.

Services

  • All teammates and physicians who are affiliated with Advocate Health - Midwest  have privileges to borrow books and other physical items from the Advocate Health - Midwest Library.
  • A book self-checkout form can be used with a smartphone when library staff are not present.
  • Most items are due back in 8 weeks.
  • Most library materials may be renewed for two more loan periods unless it is requested or reserved by another library user.
  • If items are lost or destroyed, the item must be replaced by borrowing teammate.
  • Library staff can obtain articles, books, and book chapters not available in our library collections for Advocate Health - Midwest teammates and affiliated providers.
  • Articles and book chapters will be delivered electronically.
  • If you are aware of a specific item and need the full text, please complete an article/book request form. If you have a topic in mind, but do not know what articles you need, request a literature search instead.
  • Articles are typically provided within three business days. Requests are not monitored on weekends or holidays.
  • The Advocate Health - Midwest Library offers exam proctoring services at two of our locations: Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, IL.
  • Exam proctoring service is available only to currently employed Advocate Health - Midwest teammates and is provided free of charge.
  • Proctoring will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time for library staff and the student. Advance notice of at least one week is required.
  • Proctors may not be able to monitor a student continuously during an exam. Requirements should be agreed upon before the day the test is to be administered. 
  • The student is responsible for verifying with the issuing institution that the Library can meet the institution's requirements, for coordinating the transfer of the exam, and for any costs associated with receiving or returning test materials.
  • Exam proctoring service is limited based on the availability of personnel, facilities, time and technology and the Library may deny a proctoring request.

  • SHARE supports Advocate Health - Midwest's mission to help people live well by collecting, sharing, and preserving the scholarly research and output of affiliated teammates.
  • Expert profiles highlight the scholarly publications of individuals and groups such as residents in a program
  • Readership reports summarize information about the use of content posted in the repository 
  • For evidence-based research, ongoing current awareness needs, and other work-related inquiries, consider requesting a literature search.
  • Searches of the medical literature will be executed by our expert librarians who are experienced in different databases and search methods.
  • For the best results, please complete a literature search request form to give us a full picture of what information you require.
  • Literature search results are typically delivered within five business days. If you have an urgent patient care request, we will do our best to accommodate you. Requests for literature searches are not monitored on weekends or holidays.

Literature search policy for students

Students of all types (undergraduates who are also teammates, medical students, nursing students, graduate nursing students, other graduate school learners who are also teammates) are expected to be learning a competency to find and analyze literature. Librarians support learners with consultation and teaching on literature search strategy and database selection rather than completing literature searches for learners when these searches are needed to complete a course assignment or a curriculum competency.

  • Training can be virtual or in-person and can be 1:1 or group training.
  • Topics include citation management, evidence-based medicine, and use of specific information resources.
