Continuing Education: ClinicalKey

Continuing medical education (CME), continuing education (CE) and maintenance of certification (MOC) options available from Advocate Health - Midwest Library resources

Information and Accreditation

ClinicalKey offers Internet Point of Care CME credit for self-directed, online learning. The CME credits are provided by the Elsevier Office of CME, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). You must be logged in to ClinicalKey and have an account to earn credit.

Creating a ClinicalKey Account

If you have not already registered in ClinicalKey, you'll need to follow these steps:

  1. While on an Advocate Health - Midwest networked computer, go to ClinicalKey and click "Register" in the top right corner.
  2. Using the Advocate Health - Midwest email address, fill in the required information on the registration page.
  3. Click "Register" when finished. ClinicalKey will display an activation message and sends a confirmation email.
  4. In the confirmation email, click the link to officially start your remote access.*

*This will grant 180 days of remote access. Prior to the end of the 180 days, log into your ClinicalKey personal account while on an Advocate Health - Midwest computer or VPN. Should your remote access expire, follow the above steps to re-activate your access.

Claim Credit

Earn 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for the clinical searches you conduct daily. The steps to earning free Internet Point-of-Care CME credits couldn't be simpler:

  1. Go to clinicalkey.com and click "Login" in the top right corner.
  2. Perform a search in ClinicalKey to answer a question relevant to your practice. As you open eligible, peer-reviewed content, your search will be automatically recorded as potential CME.
  3. From the CME/MOC dashboard, click on "Claim Credit." Potential or earned credits can be filtered by time frame and reviewed in this dashboard.
  4. Select the query you want to claim, answer a few questions, click submit, and print the certificate. You can access your CME transcript at any time.*

*Note: Users have two years from the date of accrual to claim CME credit.
