AI Literacy for Scholarly and Research AI Tools

by Elizabeth Suelzer, MLIS, AHIP on 2025-02-28T14:27:53-06:00 | 0 Comments

Are you considering incorporating AI tools into your academic writing and research? To utilize AI tools effectively, it is crucial to possess AI literacy, which includes understanding how the AI applications were developed and trained, and how to critically appraise the resources.

On February 25, 2025, library teammate Liz Suelzer, MLIS, gave a lecture for the Secrets to Research Success GME Lecture Series called AI Literacy: Scholarly and Research AI Tools.

In the lecture, Liz focused on two different types of AI technologies: generative AI applications like ChatGPT and research tools like Consensus.  She demonstrated how these applications were developed and trained and described the sources of information used to train the technology. The lecture also highlighted potential risks of over-reliance on generative AI for scholarly tasks.
