International Open Access Week is observed internationally each October and it is a time for the academic and research community to provide awareness of the benefits of open access.  Here at the Advocate Aurora Library, we wanted to take this week to highlight two open access journals published by Advocate Aurora Health.

What is Open Access?
Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. Open Access ensures that anyone can access and use these results to turn ideas into industries and breakthroughs into better lives. Learn more about how Open Access can accelerate research and benefit society.

Open Access at AAH

The Library-managed Advocate Aurora Health Institutional Repository site hosts two open access journals that are published by Advocate Aurora Health.

Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews (JPCRR) was founded in 2014 and is published quarterly. JPCRR is a diamond open access, peer-reviewed medical journal that is indexed in PubMed Central, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and Web of Science’s Emerging Sources Citation Index. It is focused on advancing patient-centered care practices, health outcomes, and the patient experience. This journal does not charge authors any article processing or publication fees.

Journal of Geriatric Emergency Medicine (JGEM) is a newer journal that was founded in 2020 and is also published quarterly. JGEM is an open access, peer reviewed medical journal with a mission to improve emergency health care for older adults by providing quality education and dissemination to providers across all disciplines. There are no author fees associated with this journal. JGEM is currently working towards indexing in PubMed Central.
